Leadership

Claudia Sheinbaum
One leader who inspires me is Claudia Sheinbaum who is currently serving as the 66th president of Mexico. Sheinbaum is the first woman to become president, and despite much criticism because of her gender, I admire her womanly intuition, empathy, intelligence, and strength that has helped her make a difference. Her qualifications to run a country came from her experience as head of government in Mexico City from 2018 to 2023, and her Ph.D. in energy engineering has helped her see situations from a scientific point of view. She shows her strength when she doesn't back down from a fight or threat that comes from any other country. After Trump's massive deportations, Sheinbaum made it clear it will be on her terms, and ordered the Mexican immigrants to be deported uncuffed, and welcomed with the respect and treatment any human being deserves. Upon their arrival, they were greeted with a welcome home celebration that included delicious food and a large mariachi band, as well as immediate medical assistance, job opportunities, housing resources, and essentials like food and clothing. Her empathy has won over millions of Mexicans from both large cities and small towns because she shows equality, care, and respect.
What kind of leader do I want to be?
I want to be a leader who is the "perfect" balance of strong and soft. I want people to respect me as I respect them, and know I mean business. On the other hand, I'd like to be empathetic and relatable so my team knows they are cared for. I believe the key to success is having a mix of different leadership styles.
Luckily, I have many leadership skills that can help me become the leader I aspire to be. Because I own an event planning business, I have a lot of practice using my creativity and problem-solving skills, as well as relationship building. Networking is key to promoting my business and acquiring new clients, and relationship building has become my forte. I love designing and coming up with unique details that are custom to each event and it takes a lot of channeled creativity. As you can imagine, planning someone's party comes with a lot of responsibility, and making sure everything runs smoothly is very stressful. Nine times out of ten, something will always go in a different direction than as planned, and I have solved many unexpected problems on the spot.
There are a few leadership skills I'd like to improve on, and those would be time management and conflict resolution. I'm a perfectionist and sometimes it takes me longer than expected to finish tasks which could put me and my team behind schedule and miss deadlines. Being confrontational is not my strong suit, and I tend to avoid resolving my feelings or situations just so I don't have to talk about them. I believe a good leader is someone who can be direct and solve conflicts, and I will try my best to improve.

My motto is "Everything happens for a reason" because I believe that every "unfortunate" or good thing will lead me to my destination. When one door closes, another will open, and it'll be better than the original plan I had.
